Kelvin Anderson, Owner of "V.I.P. Records" has been doing business in Long Beach for thirty (30) years beginning in January 1979. V.I.P. Records takes pride in keeping a neat and well stocked store as well as having the knowledge of music often played by local media from Gospel, Blues, Jazz, Reggae, Old School, Hip Hop, and R & B. V.I.P. Records has a very successful special order program. "We strongly believe that if we don't have it, we make a special effort to get it. We take pride in customer service and being a positive influence in the community." says Anderson.
Some of the things Kelvin has been doing throughout the years on a small scale at his own expense include helping to launch the trio '213' (Snoop Dog, Warren G & Nate Dog) and gaining global recognition with the help of Snoop Dog's first music video "What's My Name" being shot on V.I.P.'s rooftop.
Over the years, Kelvin has received numerous honors and awards including Urban Network Retailer of the Year, Impact Retailer of the Year, Living Legends Award for Outstanding Excellence and Leadership in the Music Business, NAACP Black Businessman of the Year Award, and also several certificates and acknowledgements from City, State and local Government for his community involvement.
In 2006, Kelvin formed a non-profit organization and has received a 501(c) (3) status. "The Kelvin Anderson Foundation" plans to work with at-risk, under privileged, disadvantaged, and homeless youths and young adults who desire not only to get into the music, and entertainment industry. But, also to empower the youth and young adults with necessary knowledge and resources to achieve their goals and dreams. With the launch of Kelvins foundation, Kelvin hopes to receive monetary and non-monetary donations to further his efforts.
